Greece is expected to reopen to tourism from May 14

Greece is expected to reopen to tourists on May 14 to save the tourist season in 2021.

In order to restore the tourism industry that has been heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, Greece is expected to reopen to tourists on May 14 to save the tourist season in 2021.

This move comes in the context of Greece gradually easing travel restrictions, before officially opening the summer tourist season on May 14. Tourism is a particularly important sector for the Greek economy, accounting for about one-fifth of GDP. The country also suffered from financial constraints after the 2008 crisis.

Not only Greece, but many countries in Europe also continue to face a high infection situation due to new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to current regulations, all visitors to Greece will have to test negative and quarantine for 7 days. However, restrictions will be lifted for visitors from five countries, and European Union countries and Greece will relax restrictions a week before reopening.

A representative of the Greek government said that citizens from the above countries can enter at 9 airports and 2 border gates of Greece. Thus, if this plan is implemented, Greece will become the first European country to open to tourism.

Earlier, the Greek government announced that it would launch a new vaccination campaign for all Greek islands with less than 10,000 inhabitants. This will leverage tourism in the famous Greek islands to meet the tourism needs of the nationals of the countries. This move will, on the one hand, accelerate the ongoing vaccination campaign across the country, and at the same time strengthen the community's immunity.
